The Huawei Y6p is the company’s latest budget phone. Priced at PHP 5,990, it is armed with a huge 5000mAh battery and triple cameras.
In an industry teeming with budget devices, does it have what it takes to rise above and get noticed? Let’s find out.
The Huawei Y6p features a sleek design, reminiscent of the Huawei Y7p. It has a solid plastic body with a 6.3-inch display with a dewdrop notch, narrow bezels and a noticeable chin.
Our review unit is clad in black, which is a bit simplistic but I like how clean it looks. At the back you have the triple cameras, which is almost flushed at the back.

Going back to the display, the resolution is in HD with a 20:9 aspect ratio. The display is bright with good colors. There dewdrop notch is a bit intrusive, if you’re like me who don’t like notches.
The Huawei Y6p has a rear fingerprint scanner and face recognition for security. The hardware is fast and responsive, almost instantaneous.
There’s a mono speaker at the bottom. It gets really loud, but sounds strained at full volume.
The Huawei Y6p is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 processor with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, and EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10. With that, the phone easily handles basic operation, with fast and responsive animation.
When it comes to gaming, the phone can run most games but at modest or low graphics settings. Playing my current favorite, Call of Duty Mobile, its smooth with no noticeable issues in low graphics.
The Huawei Y6p has a 13MP main camera, supported by a 5MP ultra-wide and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies, it has an 8MP front snapper.
The main camera performs like a champ. Considering the price, photos actually look great. In fact, it may even beat more expensive phones. Colors are punchy with ample details and are pleasant to look at.

When it comes to selfies though, that’s where the price reflects the performance. Photos taken from the front camera are above average at best. It’s not as sharp and colors look average, but otherwise perfectly fine for social media.
The 5000mAh battery of the Huawei Y6p will give you a whole day with casual usage. That’s a combination of social media, Spotify, a few videos, and games.
While the large battery offers good numbers, charging it is another matter. It takes almost 3 hours to reach 100%.
The Huawei Y6p is a definite contender among budget phones and should be on your radar if you’re in the market looking for an affordable phone with decent cameras and long battery life. For the price, the handset has a lot to offer, especially with the MediaTek Helio P22 chipset the 13MP main camera.
The Huawei Y6p is priced at PHP 5,990. Pre-order period is from May 22 to 31, 2020. It is bundled with freebies worth PHP 3,180 that includes a Bluetooth headset, 15GB Huawei cloud storage for 1 year, and VIU premium access for 3 months.
