Amid a pandemic that see social distancing as a key tool in combatting the increasing rate of infection, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has chosen to conduct its graduation ceremony in a virtual space which sees every participant in their own computer-generated rendition. 

As many as 2,000 degree certificate recipients got their own custom-tailored avatars as part of the occasion.

Effectively, the online event has all graduating students and hosts at the comfort of their own homes and but were still able to experience the momentous event remotely.

Also making a virtual appearance is 2016 Nobel Prize in Physics awardee, Duncan Haldane, who will grace the event as a Chief Guest. His special presence is reserved for students who did exceptionally well in their academic pursuit.

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, gave his blessing for the ceremony in a form of a tweet.
