A lot of smartphones under Php10,000 is available in the Philippines to provide a complete performance for home school, work, gaming, and other things.

Infinix, for one, brought the Infinix Note 7 in the country. Other than covering the basics, the company added a couple of extra to lure more people in.

Priced at around Php8,000, the Note 7 is facing tough competition to another crowd-favorite — the Redmi Note 9.

Coming from a line of popular bang-for-the-buck smartphones, the Note 9 also has a lot of features that you’d rarely see on this price range.

Design and Build Quality

Both the Infinix Note 7 and Redmi Note 9 are built with plastic. No surprise for a budget smartphone. On the upside, both do have Corning Gorilla Glass protection on the back. The latter is protected by CG5, but no mention of what CG version was used on the Note 7.

The Note 9 has a splashproof coating, as officially mentioned on its webpage. Infinix didn’t mention any water protection on the Note 7, but it does have the fingerprint scanner on the side for a cleaner look.

Although they are plastic, they do have a glass-like appearance. The Redmi Note 9 is available in plain colors such as Polar White, Midnight Grey, and Forest Green. It’s not clear if the Onyx Black color will launch locally.

The Infinix Note 7 is available in three color gradient options, but only the Forest Green and Aesthetic Black made it here.

Both models also have punch-hole screens for the selfie cameras — providing a cleaner and more premium look.

Display and Audio

The Infinix Note 7 has a 6.95-inch screen, which is larger than the 6.53-inch size of the latter. Although, the Redmi Note 9 has a sharper FHD+ pixel resolution. Personally, we prefer having a sharper and detailed screen than a bigger one.

Where the Note 7 shines is in the audio department. Despite its cheap price tag, Infinix managed to add a stereo speaker setup. We can’t remember the last time we saw two speakers on a below-Php10,000 smartphone.

The two-speaker setup provides good stereo separtion for movies and playing shooter games (helps you distinguish where footsteps are coming from).

Performance and Hardware

The Infinix Note 7 is powered by a MediaTek Helio G70 processor, while the Redmi Note 9 has a newer Helio G85 chipset.

It’s technically superior, but the Helio G85’s lead over the Helio G70 is very trivial. And since the Infinix Note 7 has more RAM storage, it may actually be better than the Redmi Note 9 in terms of multitasking and other related performance.

Speaking of which, the Note 7 comes with 6GB of RAM. That’s 2GB more than the top-tier 4GB model of the latter. Moreover, the base Note 7 already has 128GB, which you can’t get on the Note 9 until you spend Php2,000 more. Both models do have a microSD card slot, so you can decide if you want larger storage later.

On the downside, the Infinix Note 7 still relies on microUSB, while the Redmi Note 9 is already on Type-C. It also has an IR blaster that lets you control any non-smart TV or other appliances.

Cameras

We gotta hand the win on the Redmi Note 9 in the camera department. That’s for its 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, which we find more useful than the low-light video camera of the former. As for the other lenses, we expect their 48-megapixel, macro, and depth sensors to take similarly-looking photos.

Redmi-Note-9-Review-NoypiGeeks-5523

Although, the Note 7 does have a sharper 16-megapixel front-facing camera, versus the 13-megapixel on the Note 9. Still, the difference in selfie quality and when participating in online classes/video conferences shouldn’t be noticeable.

Battery

The Infinix Note 7 has a 5,000mAh battery while the latter has 5,020mAh. The marginal difference shouldn’t be a big issue.

They also share the same 18W fast charging support, but the Redmi Note 9 does come with a faster 22.5W charger on the box. The Note 9 also has reverse charging, letting you turn it into a power bank to share battery charge with friends via an OTG cable.

Verdict

The Redmi Note 9 has a newer processor, sharper screen, Type-C port, and an ultra-wide camera. Learn more about it in our full review.

However, for the (almost) same price of Php7,999, the Infinix Note 7 already have 6GB RAM, 128GB storage capacity, and stereo speakers. Not a lot of entry-level devices have these features.

And considering its neck and neck performance compared to the Redmi Note 9, the Infinix Note 7 is really worth a shot.
