Intel has recently announced a new biometrics technology and solution called RealSense ID.
Designed for privacy, the RealSense ID combines an active depth sensor with a specialized neural network for a more secure, accurate, and user-aware facial authentication. It processes all facial images locally and encrypts all user data. Unlike other biometrics technology, the RealSense ID adapts to the changes in physical features of the users and works in various lighting conditions.
The RealSense ID is user-friendly too. It has an easy enrollment process and does not require to set up a network.
As for its security, the Intel RealSense ID has a built-in anti-spoofing technology against false entry attempts using photographs, videos, or masks. It also provides a one-in-1-million false acceptance rate and only activates with user awareness. Unless prompted by a pre-registered user, it will not read and scan one’s face.
As shared by Intel, the RealSense ID works well with smart locks, access control, point-of-sale machines, ATMs, kiosks, and more.
The Intel RealSense ID peripheral is available for pre-order at USD 99. Meanwhile, the RealSense ID Module for various form factors is available in a pack of 10 for USD 750. Shipping starts on March 1, 2021.
