Setting a pro-consumer stance, House Committee on Information and Communications Technology vice chair Joy Myra Tambunting, last Sunday, is asking transparency among internet providers in the Philippines by disclosing the actual internet speed they can provide.

The outcry comes amid increasing complaints from the public citing a discrepancy with their internet connectivity, which has become a major concern to most people who became heavily reliant on fast internet.

In an interview with Dobol B sa News TV, Tambunting highlights the issue by claiming that the advertised speeds are not being met.

The official points to the country’s poor infrastructure, which she claims is insufficient in rendering the quality of service that the internet service providers are marketing.

In light of the issue, the lawmaker is pressing such companies to improve their infrastructure in a push to enhance the quality of service that their consumers are receiving.

Meantime, Tambunting is considering of authoring a measure that will be the driving force to the established goal, but will require talks with the technical working group her committee has created.
