With the recent Facebook issue happening right now, its about time we became serious about protecting our profiles and online identity.

Nowadays, complex passwords are not enough. Thankfully Facebook offers two-factor authentication (2FA), adding a second layer of protection.

As explained by Facebook, two-factor authentication is a security feature that helps protect your Facebook account in addition to your password. Basically, you’ll be asked to enter a special login code whenever you (or someone else) attempts to login.

To turn on two-factor authentication, just follow these steps:

  1. First, tap the three dashes on the upper right.
  2. Go Settings.
  3. Look for and go to Security and Login.
  4. Scroll down and go to two-factor authentication. You will be asked to enter your password at this point.
  5. Select a security method. You can choose either Authentication App or Text Message. You can use Google Authenticator for the first option.
  6. Once you’ve completed the setup, your Facebook is now protected by 2FA.

2FA will make your account more secure. But we shouldn’t be complacent when it comes to our online security. A little common sense will go a long way in preventing you from becoming a victim.
