MediaTek has announced the new Dimensity 1100 and 1200, the company’s first 6nm chipsets. Both models are essentially the same and use Cortex-A78 cores.
The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 is meant for premium devices. It has a single Cortex-A78 core with 3.0GHz, another three Cortex-A77 clocked at 2.6GHz, and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores at 2.0GHz. As per MediaTek, it’s 22% and 25% more powerful and efficient, respectively, when compared to the previous generation.
It can accommodate up to 168Hz displays. Plus, the 5-core ISP can handle up to 200-megapixel camera sensors. Recording HDR 4K videos is possible.
On the other hand, the MediaTek Dimensity 1100 meant for cheaper phones. Unlike the former, all four performance cores use the Cortex-A78 clocked at 2.6GHz. Despite that, it does come with an architectural advantage that should make it more powerful than the Dimensity 1000 Plus CPU in single and multi-core performance.
It can handle up to 144Hz screens and up to 108-megapixel cameras. Both phones offer 20% faster Night shot processing and even Night mode for panoramas. Both models also use the same 9-core Mali-G77 GPU. Plus, AV1 video with hardware acceleration. They also have 5G technology with download speeds maxing at 4.7GBps.
Both chipsets will arrive on smartphones around March or April from Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, and Realme.
