No expiration for unused data allocation with the ‘Roll-Over Internet Act’ - Android

The Senate Bill No. 1880 or the Roll-Over Internet Act by Senator Lapid will institutionalize a roll-over data scheme on all internet service providers (ISP) in the Philippines.

With this, the unused data allocation from internet data promos or packages will never expire. Instead, it will carry over to succeeding months until the end of the year.

The bill further states that if the data is still not consumed by the end of the year, the remaining unused data will be converted to rebates, which can be used for future internet subscriptions.

As per Lapid, this will help subscribers who lose the megabytes, and even gigabytes, of the data allocation they paid for just because they didn’t consume it at a given time.

A bill like this is really essential now that we’ve entered the new normal where everything — from school to work and business — is done at home.

Once passed, all ISPs are mandated to follow the roll-over data system to its subscribers. And to ensure that all companies will comply, Lapid is proposing a fine of up to Php1 million to those non-compliant and may even have their licenses and franchises revoked.
