As several trends on mobile device displays and cameras increases, some brands have focused on producing smartphones with 1TB of storage to provide bigger space for multimedia files and apps out of the box. 1 TB of storage can store hundreds of thousands of photos, videos, and apps which is ideal for those who constantly ran out of storage space. Currently, there are only a few smartphones that are equipped with a whopping 1TB storage. Here’s what we found.
Launched last year in February, the Galaxy S10+ is the predecessor of Samsung’s current flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S20+. It sports a 6.3-inch WQHD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O display with a pill-shaped cutout for its dual 10MP main and 8MP depth front cameras. It has triple rear cameras consisting of a 12MP main, 16MP ultra-wide, and a 12MP telephoto lenses. It is powered by an Exynos 9820 processor and has a 4,100mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0, Wireless PowerShare, and wireless reverse charging. Locally, it comes in two configurations: an 8GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, and a 12GB RAM and 1TB of storage. Both have up to 512GB microSD slots. As for its OS, it runs on One UI based on Android 9 Pie. In the Philippines, the Samsung Galaxy S10+ 128GB model is currently priced at PHP 47,990, while the 1TB variant has a price tag of PHP 89,990 during its initial release.
ASUS’ second generation of gaming smartphone has a lot to offer in terms of hardware. Debuted last July 2019, the ASUS ROG Phone 2 sports a 6.59-inch FHD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate, dual rear cameras composed of a 48MP Sony IMX586 main, and a 13MP ultra-wide sensors. It has a 24MP front camera and a 6,000mAh battery with 30W ROG HyperCharge technology and Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0. It runs under the ZENUI based on Android 9 Pie. Onboard is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor, 12GB RAM, and 512GB of storage. However, its 12GB RAM + 1TB storage variant was exclusively available in China and Taiwan.
The last model in the list is the Smartisan Nut R1 released last 2018 from a China-based smartphone brand Smartisan. It has a 6.17-inch FHD+ LCD, up to 1TB of storage, up to 8GB of RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, and dual rear 20 MP and 12MP cameras. The smartphone also has a 20MP front camera and a 3,600mAh battery that supports 18W wired fast charging and wireless charging. It runs on Smartisan 6.0 based on Android 8.
As you can see on the list, there are not many 1TB smartphones in the market, probably due to the low demand. The increase in storage also increases the price, which makes them less enticing for consumers. Most users will probably find the 512GB capacity as more than enough. Those with lower storage capacities can also take advantage of cloud storage services to store files such as photos and videos. Other smartphones are also equipped with microSD card slots, so users can buy a card with the capacity they need.
How about you guys. Do you think we need 1TB smartphones, or should smartphone manufacturers improve on other features? Let us know in the comments below.
