Filipino users need not worry that TikTok may stop working on their smartphones, as the Philippine government currently has no plans to ban the Chinese social media app.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque (who, by the way, tried the app and garnered mixed reactions), he does not see any reason why TikTok should be banned in the Philippines. This is despite the fact that TikTok has been accused of being a spyware made by the Chinese government and has been found to snoop on the iOS 14 clipboard.
In a press briefing, Roque said “Wala pong dahilan na nakikita para i-ban ang TikTok dito sa Pilipinas.”
Roque further explained that the administration under President Rodrigo Duterte is not depriving Filipinos of access to any website or online service as proof that the president does not suppress freedom of speech.
TikTok is currently banned by India, with the US possibly following suit, due to security issues. Meanwhile, Facebook recently launched an alternative called Instagram Reels.
