We already knew that OPPO is working on a processor of their own but we haven’t heard any specifics yet.
According to a report by Nikkei Asian Review, the Chinese eletronics giant is actively recruiting engineers and executives from popular SoC makers to help them make their own chipset.
The most recent recruit are top executives from Unisoc and MediaTek. The co-chief operating officer of MediaTek, Jeffery Lu, is one of the firsts on the list together with an executive working on the 5G chip development. In addition, one of the executives of Xiaomi also jumped ship.
But that’s not where it ends. Sources familiar with the matter also said that OPPO successfully lured Qualcomm and Huawei HiSilicon employees as well.
OPPO has confirmed that they are really investing on chipset-related Research and Development so that it can simplify its own supply chain. Currently, the company makes use of processors from Qualcomm and MediaTek.
So far, there are no concrete details yet regarding OPPO’s own processor but we certainly expect it to come out in the near future.
