Samsung just launched its Galaxy Note 20 series with, of course, the Note 20 leading the pack. We’ll pit it against its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 10, to see how much has changed so you’d have an idea whether to upgrade your current Note 10 (if you own one) or if you ever consider buying one. Let’s start.

Display

Both the Galaxy Note 20 and the Note 10 sport an identical Dynamic AMOLED display, however, the Note 20 has a bigger display at 6.7-inches and has a touch sensitivity of 240Hz. Since they both come with a Dynamic AMOLED display, we expect that they will provide a great viewing experience and punchy colors.

Chipset

When it comes to their chipsets, the Galaxy Note 20 5G takes the upper hand as it is powered with the latest flagship Exynos 990 7nm processor. The Note 10, sports a high-end processor from last year which is the Exynos 9825 7nm. We don’t have the benchmark numbers yet, but when it comes to day-to-day use, we can expect little difference when it comes to their performance since both come with flagship processors.

RAM & Storage

For RAM and storage, both the Galaxy Note 20 5G and the Note 10 are on board with the same 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage.

Cameras

In terms of cameras, both the Galaxy Note 20 5G and the Note 10 have the same triple camera setup with only their wide-angle and telephoto lens having a different resolution. The Note 20 5G now has a 12MP wide-angle lens, which was previously a 16MP one. Also, one of the significant upgrades here is the 64MP telephoto lens, which was only a 12MP one from the Note 10. It’s also worth noting that the Note 20 is now capable of shooting videos in 8K at 24fps.

Connectivity & Other Features

Unlike the Galaxy Note 10, the Note 20 series now feature 5G connectivity but only as a telco-exclusive. The support for wireless Samsung DeX is also present for the Note 20 5G. Other than that, they share the same connectivity features, including 4G LTE, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC. Both devices also offer a dual-SIM card slot (nano). For biometrics and protection, both devices utilize an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and IP68 dust and water-resistant.

Samsung improved the S Pen by reducing the latency by 9ms. Apart from that, it still comes with IP68 dust and water-resistant.

OS & Battery

Out of the box, the Galaxy Note 20 5G runs on the latest One UI 2.1 based on Android 10 while the Galaxy Note 10 runs on Android 9 Pie and can be updated to One UI 2.1. For batteries, the Galaxy Note 20 now comes with a larger 4,300mAh battery compared to Note 10’s 3,500mAh but still carries the same 25W fast charging and 12W wireless charging, but improved with its Fast Wireless Charging 2.0.

Price

The two devices are priced as follows:

• Samsung Galaxy Note 20 – price starts at PHP 53,990  
• Samsung Galaxy Note 10 – PHP 53,990

Conclusion

Since the Galaxy Note 20 and the Note 10 share the same price, it would be the best choice to get the latest Note 20 since it received a lot of refinements and design changes. However, to get the 5G version, you’ll have to go through a telco and apply for a postpaid plan. But if you’re coming from the Note 10, an upgrade would be pretty much unnecessary. The Note 10 is still a beastly device on its own and still packs a lot of features.

Although the 240Hz touch latency, wireless Samsung DeX mode, and 8K video recording capability on the Note 20 5G are enticing, if you’re a regular user who doesn’t do heavy gaming and won’t use it for multimedia purposes, the Note 10 will do you just fine.
