Samsung has officially launched the Note 20 series, with the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G leading the pack. Display

In terms of display, the Note 20 Ultra 5G has the same edge display size at 6.9-inch from the S20 Ultra. However, the S20 Ultra 5G is equipped with a Dynamic AMOLED 2.0 display and has a slightly lower pixel density at 496ppi while the Note 20 Ultra has a newer Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and has a higher pixel density at 511ppi and has a faster 240Hz touch latency rate. Both have 120Hz refresh rates, use Samsung’s Infinity-O design to house the front camera, and support HDR10+ content.

Camera

The S20 Ultra 5G dominates in terms of cameras. Although both Ultra variants sport 108MP main sensors, the S20 Ultra 5G sports quad-rear cameras. Complementing its main camera is a 2MP ultrawide, 48MP telephoto, and depth vision sensors sitting on a protruding camera module. Among the special features of the S20 Ultra 5G includes 8K video recording, 8K Video Snap, Space Zoom, up to 10 times Hybrid Optic Zoom, and up to 100 times Super-Resolution Zoom.

Meanwhile, the latest contender Note 20 Ultra 5G has a redesigned camera module from its predecessors. It comes with triple rear cameras consisting of its 12MP ultrawide, 108MP main, and 12MP telephoto lenses. It now comes with an Advanced Hybrid Laser AF for focus. It also adopts some camera features from the S20 like 8K video recording, 8K Video Snap, and Space Zoom. However, the S20 Ultra 5G has a higher Hybrid Optic and Super-Resolution Zoom capabilities up to 10X and 100X respectively. Meanwhile, Note 20 Ultra 5G has less with up to 5X Optical Zoom and up to 50X Super-Resolution Zoom.

Chipset

As for the chipsets, both smartphones are powered with Samsung’s first mobile platform with an integrated 5G-modem, the Exynos 990. This means that both smartphones are capable of 5G connectivity. Consumers may expect the same performance of S20 Ultra 5G from Note 20 Ultra 5G as it shares the same chipset clocked at 2.7GHz.

In terms of RAM, both the Note 20 Ultra 5G and the S20 Ultra 5G offer an LPDDR5 RAM. However, the S20 Ultra offers more, with either 12GB and 16GB onboard. Meanwhile, the Note 20 Ultra 5G is equipped with either 8GB and 12GB. For the Philippines, the Note 20 Ultra 4G LTE will have 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM while the 5G version will come with a 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

Memory

For storage, both smartphones have flexible options. Both offers from 128GB to 512GB of storage and can be expanded via MicroSD slot up to 1TB. However, the brand only brought the 128GB variant locally for the S20 Ultra 5G. As for the Philippine version of the Note 20 Ultra 5G, it will be limited to 256GB of storage.

Connectivity and other features

Both devices have 5G and 4G LTE connectivity, WiFi 6, USB Type-C, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and IP68 certification for dust and water resistance. Do note that the Note 20 Ultra 5G will be offered exclusively through telcos. The Note 20 Ultra 5G runs on the latest One UI 2.1 while the S20 Ultra has One UI 2.0. Both OS are still based on Android 10 and offer a dual-SIM card slot

For biometrics, the Note 20 Ultra 5G and S20 Ultra 5G are equipped with face recognition. The only difference is that the S20 Ultra 5G’s fingerprint scanner is integrated under its display while it is employed on the side key for the Note 20 Ultra 5G.

Although both support Samsung DeX, Note 20 Ultra 5G offers it wirelessly through Samsung Smart TVs 2019 and up. The Note 20 Ultra 5G also supports the newly-improved S Pen that now supports air actions for navigation.  Other than that, they share the same features including Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and Samsung Knox. Both devices also offer a hybrid, dual-SIM card slot (nano).

Among the new features for the Note 20 Ultra 5G are syncing of Samsung Notes across all devices and to OneNote (will roll out on November 2020), AI-based game booster, Link to Windows feature, Wi-Fi optimize, and point to Share for wireless sharing of files.

Battery

On paper, the Note 20 Ultra 5G has a smaller battery at 4,500mAh compared to the S20 Ultra 5G at 5,000mAh. Both support Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, and Wireless PowerShare which wirelessly charge other Samsung devices. However, the latter supports 45W fast charging,

Price

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G has been launched and will be available for pre-order in the Philippines on August 7 on Samsung Experience Stores and select Abenson and SM Appliance Stores nationwide. It will be on sale on August 21, 2020, at authorized online and offline Samsung dealers.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has been launched and will be available in the Philippines in 8GB RAM + 256GB internal storage starting at PHP 67,990. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G ships in a 12GB RAM + 256GB internal storage variant for PHP 72,990. On the other hand, the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G is available in 12GB + 128GB configuration for PHP 69,990.

Which one should you get?

Samsung’s current flagship has more to offer in terms of hardware. On the other hand, Note 20 Ultra 5G offers a plethora of productivity features that come in handy. If you’re a camera-centric consumer who wants to get a bigger battery, faster-wired charging, larger RAM, and prefers wired Samsung DeX capabilities then stick to the S20 Ultra 5G. But if you’re a busy bee who needs a daily workhorse for productivity, want to enjoy Samsung DeX wirelessly on select Samsung smart TVs, prefers larger storage, and improve your game at a slightly affordable price, then the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is for you.
