Samsung in its drive to change the shape of 5G with next-generation performance and connectivity, has announced the new Galaxy Z Flip 5G. The phone is the company’s latest foldable smartphone but there is really no surprises as it is something we’ve seen coming because of multiple rumors.
Most of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G hardware are inherited from the Galaxy Z Flip, except that it runs on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage. The 5G smartphone comes in two new colors, Mystic Grey and Mystic Bronze.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5G sports a folding 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen with 2636×1080 pixel resolution on the inside. On the outside, is 1-inch Super AMOLED cover display with 300×112 pixel resolution. This 5G model weighs the same 183g but is 0.1mm thicker at the hinge, with almost all other features remaining unchanged.
The camera setup on the outside has a 12MP regular shooter with aperture of f/1.8 and a 12MP ultrawide angle shooter with aperture of f/2.2. On the other side, there’s a 1-MP selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture and autofocus.
To take advantage of the form factor, there is the One UI 2.1 running on the Galaxy Z Flip 5G to offer some exclusive features. One of those is the Flex Mode, which splits in two some apps, whereby the camera viewfinder will be on the top half of the screen and on the bottom will be the controls.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G will go on sale from August 7 with Mystic Grey and Mystic Bronze color options. It will be available in the US on AT&T and T-Mobile with a price tag of $1,450 (~Php71,700), which is about $70 more than the 4G model. The price of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G on T-Mobile starts from €829 monthly plan. Pre-orders begins today in Germany and there’s a limited gift box worth €300 for those that pre-order before August 6.
