Samsung’s next high-end Exynoss processor for its future flagship devices has been confirmed to come equipped with an AMD GPU, replacing its usual ARM Mali graphics.
By next, we don’t mean the newly announced Samsung Exynos 2100, which sports an ARM Mali-G78 MP14 GPU and is expected to be the SoC running under the hood of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 series of smartphones. Instead, it’s reported that the successor to the Exynos 2100 will start the use of AMD RDNA graphics, and that means we may be seeing these AMD-powered chipsets by 2021 for the Galaxy S22 series.
Meanwhile, the Exynos 2100, even without an AMD GPU, is a beast. It’s got 200MP camera support, 8K recording capability at 30 or 60 frames per second, integrated 5G modem with up to 7.35Gbps theoretical downlink speed. It uses ARM’s latest Cortex-X1 core.
Samsung originally announced its partnership with AMD in 2019, with a follow-up announcement last year. The collaboration between the two companies is intended to give Samsung a boost in overall performance for its chips in an attempt to outdo Qualcomm.
