Shopee has increased the Sellers’ transaction fee to 2% plus VAT for all successful orders in the platform.

According to Shopee’s notification from a seller’s account, starting August 1, 2020, all successful orders will have a 2% Transaction Fee plus VAT which will be placed on the buyer paid amount. The Seller Transaction Fee is a handling fee that covers the cost of the payment transactions. The said fee is not new as Shopee implemented a 1.5% transaction fee without the VAT since last year.

The increase to the Seller’s Transaction Fee with the addition of VAT will affect the merchant’s sales in the digital platform. A Shopee seller shared with us that the increase in fee will affect items with small markups. “Malaki effect nya sa items kong maliit lang markup. Sana wag na tumaas kasi malaki matatalo ko parang nagresellers price ako for a retail price,” she said.

“With Shopee’s increase in seller’s transaction fee + VAT, with the competition, I believe we can no longer gain or earn anything. Unless you are the factory, but we aren’t. We have to lower the prices to compete,” shares another seller.
