Sony has just recently launched the PlayStation 5 showcase which highlights many of the upcoming console’s latest information, including official pricing and release date.

We know that the PlayStation 5 will come in two variants, similar to its competitor at Microsoft, and will be priced accordingly—the disc drive-less PS5 Digital Edition at $399 (~Php19,300) and the PS5 Standard Edition, which comes with a Blu-ray disc drive, at $499 (~Php24,300). Take note that these direct price conversions are before taxes in PH.

The PS5 Digital Edition mimics the Xbox Series S, which is a trend that Microsoft started when it launched the Xbox One S and is essentially a digital-only platform due to lack of the disc drive. Purely running games directly from the console’s SSD, the Digital Edition bears emphasis on the PlayStation Network (PSN) where digital games are sourced.

Meanwhile, the PS5 Standard Edition is the more complete version of the PlayStation with its ostensive capability of running games directly from the disc, thanks to its Blu-ray disc drive.

While nearing its release on November 12, 2020, the impact of the global crisis on the next-generation console’s development and subsequent has put a constraint to Sony’s available stocks which imposes targeted sales.

The following markets will be the first ones to receive the console when it officially launches: Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Korea, and U.S. The rest of the world, including Asia, Europe, Middle East, South Africa, and South America, following suit a week after on November 19, 2020.
