A company has set its sight on building a hotel in space with a bullish launch in 2027.
The Orbital Assembly Corporation, which calls itself as the world’s first large-scale space construction company, is planning to build the Voyager Space Station hotel, a rotating space station that will accommodate 400 people and use artificial gravity set to Lunar gravity or 1/6th of the Earth’s gravity.
Construction of the station will begin in 2025, with the project having recently reached its $1 million fundraising goal. To shuttle guests from Earth, Orbital will be tapping the services of Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starship.
With only six years to go, the completion of this project seems uncertain. But if it does come to fruition and the hotel opens, then interested guests can use the six years to save up for what’s expected to be ludicrously high prices. A one-way trip to the station alone is estimated to be $5 million.
