We have seen concepts from other smartphone brands such as OPPO and Xiaomi about an in-display front camera. Still, ZTE is the world’s first to implement it with the Axon 20 5G and made it first available in the market. Now that we have it here with us let’s see what else it’s got under its sleeves.

From the get-go, the Axon 20 5G looks and feels premium. The back is made out of glass, so it’s much prone to fingerprints and smudges. We highly recommend that you use the included jelly case in the box. Here at the back, we can also find the quad-rear camera setup and a ZTE and AXON 5G branding.

Located on the right side are the volume rockers and a textured sleep/wake button. Nothing can be found on the left side.

At the top, we have the secondary noise-canceling microphone.

While at the bottom are the hybrid dual nano-sim card tray, USB Type-C port, call microphone, and speaker grille.

Upfront, we have a massive 6.92-inch OLED 90Hz panel with a resolution of 1080×2460 and a pixel density of 388ppi. Above that, we can find the in-display selfie camera. The call speaker is located underneath the display, and it vibrates to transmit the sound to your ear, making the display look seamless.

The screen’s portion where the under-display camera is located can be a little pixelated and quite noticeable when watching media content. However, it is still a bit better than having a cut-out or a notch on display.

Powering the ZTE Axon 20 5G is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G coupled with an Adreno 620, up to 8GB RAM with up to 256GB of storage. When it comes to performance, it can handle light to moderate tasks; gaming, on the other hand, is pretty average; there are slight frame drops and can cause overheating at times.

Running on this device is ZTE’s MiFavor 10.5 based on Android 10. It looks clean and close to stock Android.

Taking a look at the cameras, the ZTE Axon 20 5G packs a quad rear camera setup consisting of a 64MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor. Upfront, we have a 32MP under-display selfie camera.
