Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed a couple of details about the 2022 iPhone models, citing Apple’s supply chain sources.
After this year’s iPhone models — possibly called the iPhone 13 series — Kuo expects that the iPhone Pro 2022 models will finally retire the thick notch on top of the screen.
As a replacement, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max (or whatever it ends up being called), will have a smaller and less conspicuous punch-hole. Something that its Android rivals like the Galaxy S21 already have.
With a smaller footprint, no word yet if Apple will also retire the FaceID. With the new normal forcing people to wear masks all the time, it would make sense to bring back TouchID.
The fingerprint scanner may be put on the lock/power button, like what Apple did on the iPad Pro.
Like in previous years, the 2021 iPhone models will look similar to last year. Hence we can expect the radical design change on the 2022 release.
Kuo has also offered updates on the budget iPhone SE. The analyst believes that a new version will come out in 2022,˜ carrying 5G connectivity. Chances are, it will use Apple’s first 5G-enabled chipset, the A14 Bionic of the iPhone 12 series.
It will also keep the same 4.7-inch screen, with thick bezels for the front-facing TouchID — possibly similar to the iPhone 8 look of the current iPhone SE model.
