Google is currently optimizing photo storage of the Google Camera app on Pixel smartphones by eliminating a dedicated folder for portrait photos.
Based on the report by Android Police, the Google Camera version 7.5 now automatically saves portrait photos directly on the Camera folder found in the smartphone’s Gallery and observes the chronology of all the user’s other photos. Previously, portrait photos are saved in another dedicated folder containing two shots: one raw image and one processed photo applying blur in the background.
The naming convention is also changed for easier file management. From the old 00100dPORTRAIT_00100_BURSTYYYYMMDDHHMMSS_COVER.jpg, it is now renamed as PXL_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.PORTRAIT-01.COVER.jpg adding the photo’s timestamp. The 01 in the latest naming system indicates the original photo while 02 stands for the processed photo.
Currently, the Google Camera app version 7.5 only works in the beta version of Android 11.
