The Huawei launched a new Nova smartphone in the Philippines last month in the form of the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G, which is something expected considering the Huawei launches a new Nova device every year. However, this year’s Nova lineup is more exciting because it is more powerful, has better cameras, and comes with 5G connectivity. Here are the reasons why you should get it.
The Nova series is targeted towards the youth, and it shows in the design. The Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G is no exception. At the back, it has this textured 3D glass surface that produces different light effects depending on the color you chose. There’s the Space Silver that has that frosted glass look, Crush Green that reflects rays of light, and Midsummer Purple, which is an iconic Huawei color that was introduced in the Nova 5T. On the front, we have Corning Gorilla Glass 5, while on the sides is a thick metal frame. The Nova 7 SE 5G is a mid-range device that is given flagship treatment when it comes to its aesthetics.
The Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G runs on a Kirin 820 octa-core CPU, Mali-G57 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The Kirin 820 is a new chipset that launched in March and boasts a 7nm architecture for improved performance and power efficiency, Huawei-designed Da Vinci NPU for better AI computing, and an integrated 5G modem. In our review, the Nova 7 SE 5G scored an impressive 355,324 points. The phone was able to handle even the most demanding tasks such as gaming, without any frame dips and noticeable stuttering. Multitasking was also a breeze, thanks to its generous RAM.
In addition to the hardware, Huawei’s EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10 harnesses that hardware power. Along with Huawei’s AppGallery and Huawei Petal Search Widget, the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G will give you security and convenient access to the apps that you need. All you need to do is tap on the widget, type the name of the app, and it will bring it to you along with other recommendations.
While Huawei has the P40 series to represent its camera-phone lineup, the Nova series have also proven themselves to be capable shooters. The Nova 7 SE 5G also impresses with its quad-rear cameras consisting of a 64MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth, and 2MP macro. Selfies, on the other hand, are handled by a 16MP shooter. The rear photos produced by the Nova 7SE is incredibly detailed thanks to its 64MP primary shooter. This translates well even when taking pictures in unnatural light. Color reproduction is excellent, with a decent dynamic range as well. Selfies also come out nice, even with less than ideal lighting.
If you want to use the Nova 7 SE 5G for watching videos, don’t worry as it has a large 6.5-inch LTPS IPS display with Full HD+ resolution, which equates to 405ppi, and an immersive screen-to-body ratio of 90.3%. It has a small punch hole on the upper left corner for the selfie camera, so it’s not that distracting when you’re watching something in full screen. Also, it has a 96% NTSC color gamut and supports HDR 10. In other words, display quality is great for viewing photos, watching videos, or gaming.
Powering Nova 7 SE 5G’s immersive display, versatile cameras, and powerful internals is a large 4,000mAh battery, which is more than enough to give a heavy user a whole day of use. And when that moment comes when you have to recharge, the Huawei 40W SuperCharge can replenish the battery to 70% in just half an hour.
What makes the Nova 7 SE 5G stand out compared to other mid-range devices in the market, and one of its major selling points, is 5G connectivity that supports NSA network mode as well as the current Huawei network infrastructure in the country. And at PHP 19,990, this makes it one of the most affordable 5G-enabled smartphones in the country aimed at the youth.
Not only can it connect to 4G, but you can also harness the speed and bandwidth of 5G as well as benefit from Huawei’s ecosystem. And that is just the tip of the iceberg as 5G can bring tons of innovation when it becomes widely available. You can read more about the importance and benefits of 5G here.
5G is coming soon in the Philippines in the second half of 2020. While there’s no need to change your contact number or SIM, you need to have a 5G-ready smartphone. And guess what, the Nova 7 SE 5G is ready for it.
