Following the rising popularity of video streaming sites, like Netflix, which raises concern over the contents it could broadcast to the local audience, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) is asking for the “adoption” of the country’s rating system by the said platform.
The issue also comes in light with the misunderstanding regarding MTRCB’s perceived stance to “impose” regulation over the service, which the agency outright denied. Conversely, MTRCB chairperson Rachel Arenas claims that it’s the companies behind the platforms themselves who were asking for what laws to follow.

Arenas, however, admits that there is not any guideline yet and thereby is being drafted as per demand.
To clarify on the issue of MTRCB’s request for the platforms to see acceptance of the Philippine’s rating system, Arenas suggests that both the agency and the service providers do a “co-regulation” instead of letting the former merely do “reviews of videos on demand.”
