The OPPO Reno series are one of the most popular midrange line in the market.
Back in April 2020, the OPPO Reno 3 arrived in the Philippines. It features a set of specs and a flashy design that were combined to appeal to the mainstream market.
But only a couple of months since its release, the company has already brought its successor in the country — the OPPO Reno 4.
Just only five months apart, OPPO was able to come up with a new device that’s a step up over its predecessor.
So the question is: is the Reno 4 really better than its predecessor? Is it really worth getting than the now-affordable Reno 3? We check out what’s the difference between the two in our OPPO Reno 3 versus Reno 4 specifications and features comparison.

The OPPO Reno 3’s color gradient design sure looks classy and eye-catching. However, we do appreciate the clean and minimalistic look of the new OPPO Reno 4.
It has a smoked glass back, with a camera design that’s similar to the Galaxy Note 20 series. The OLED screen also allowed it to have ultra-thin bezels on the front.
What’s more, the Reno 4 has a cleaner punch-hole on the top left, while the older model has the traditional waterdrop notch.
Both devices have Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front. But, ironically, the glass on the back of the Reno 4 was downgraded to Gorilla Glass 3.
OPPO didn’t bother to touch the display and audio departments on the Reno 4. This means that it has the same 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen, with the in-display fingerprint scanner baked in.
Unlike some smartphones, the headphone jacks were kept on both devices. Albeit, they only come with a single loudspeaker instead of a stereo setup.
Probably the only main upgrade here is the processor. The OPPO Reno 4 comes with a Snapdragon 720G, which offers better CPU, gaming, benchmarks, and battery efficiency scores than the MediaTek Helio P90 processor of the Reno 3.
Both models come with the same 8GB of RAM for seamless multitasking and 128GB of expandable storage for all your apps, games, files, and more.
The newer processor also allowed it to have the new Bluetooth 5.1 standard, which provides better signal reliability and consumes less energy.

Here’s where things get a bit controversial. The Reno 3 came with a 48-megapixel main camera, 13-megapixel telephoto lens, 8-megapixel ultra-wide, and 2-megapixel mono camera. But for some weird reason, OPPO ditched the zoom camera for an almost useless depth sensor on the Reno 4.
On the upside, the OPPO Reno 4 does have a dual-camera setup on the front. However, the second one is only a 2-megapixel depth sensor, instead of a more acceptable ultra-wide lens. This makes the downgrade from the 44-megapixel to a 32-megapixel selfie camera unacceptable.
The OPPO Reno 4 has a 4,015mAh battery, while the latter has 4,025mAh. Another odd downgrade, but the difference should be unnoticeable.
On the upside, both devices will come with VOOC Flash Charge that delivers 30W of power — a charging speed that’s becoming a norm in today’s devices.
As you just saw, OPPO did a couple of bizarre downgrades on the OPPO Reno 4. It has a lower-grade glass back and has been spared of the telephoto lens.
Although, its cleaner design and the bump in performance should be enough to justify it as an upgrade to the OPPO Reno 3.
If you still own the five-month-old model, there’s really no viable reason to upgrade for now. OPPO is also starting to phase out the Reno 3 in stores. However, a couple of online sellers are offering brand new units for around Php15,990.
