18 people are facing a serious legal complaint after reportedly providing illicit access to Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2020 films.

The suspected individuals were allegedly trying to make money off of MMFF 2020 films by offering eager streamers access to shows of their choosing for as little as Php10 or Php20.

Spearheading the charge is the Optical Media Board (OMB) who brought the issue to the Department of Justice’s attention last Tuesday, January 5, against 15 individuals.

Cyrus Valenzuela, OMB’s legal counsel, claims that an additional three persons were caught for the same offenses on Monday, June 4.

Playing the watchdog in the overall scheme, Globe Studios had their hands tied over the holidays for actively keeping an eye and reporting those who were sharing illegal links, said studio head, Quark Henares, in an interview with CNN Philippines.

All perpetrators are in an alleged violation against Intellectual Property Code (RA8293) and Optical Media Act (RA9239).

Facilitators of the MMFF and film producers are together in combating video piracy of locally-produced films, which has been seen as a bane to an already struggling industry.
