The lack of telecommunication towers has been one of the main reason of the poor internet connectivity in the country. Building one is not a walk in the park either due to all the necessary permits that the company needs to gather from the government.
Thankfully, acquiring permits will be much easier now that the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), and other government agencies, have signed a Joint Memorandum Circular that will streamline the requirements for acquiring permits to build common towers. Thus reducing any delays and burdens that providers face in making one.
The memorandum is in line with another circular that DICT released, which provides guidelines on the common tower policy that aims to motivate the development of cell towers in the country.
With the streamlined guideline, the entire timeline, which was originally 200 days, will be shortened dramatically to 16 days.
Other than improving internet speed for commercial use, DICT also aims that it will help improve socio-economic welfare through information and communications technology (ICT).

The memorandum was co-signed last Thursday, July 23, via a Zoom conference call by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Health (DOH), and the Food and Drug Administration.
You can check out DICT’s website for the full list of streamlined requirements and permits.
