Back in 2019, Sony announced that it would cease the sale of digital games through sellers like Walmart, Amazon, and Best Buy. Now, two years later, the company is facing a class-action lawsuit because of it.

The Caccuri v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC class-action lawsuit was filed in a San Francisco District Court in the United States. The suit claims that restricting the sale of digital games to the PlayStation Store creates an unlawful monopoly as it gives players no other source to get them.

As per the suit, the monopoly allows Sony to “charge supracompetitive prices” for digital PlayStation games — prices that are apparently significantly higher than their physical counterparts, which are being sold at competitive prices in the retail market.

The suit added that these digital copies are priced “significantly higher than they would be in a competitive retail market for digital games.”
