The new Vivo X50 Pro is the type of smartphone that breaks the mold. It doesn’t come with a flagship chipset like the Snapdragon 865, but it is a flagship in its own right. Beautiful design, 5G connectivity, and excellent camera hardware are all it needs to justify its stake at this level. We’re really excited about this phone, so let’s just go ahead and check it out.
The X50 Pro is a sleek piece of hardware, constructed with metal and glass that seamlessly curve together. It has that heft and solid feel that we typically experience with flagship devices.
The back panel is frosted glass, making it quite resistant to fingerprints compared to more glossy finishes, which we really like. Here at the back we find the rectangular quad rear camera module, LED flash, and some Vivo branding. The cameras are considered the main highlight of this device. The rear module contains a 48MP main, 8MP periscope telephoto, 8MP ultrawide, and a 13MP portrait sensor. In front, we have a single 32MP sensor.
The front is home to a 6.56-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2376 x 1080 and a smoother refresh rate of 90Hz. It also has support for HDR10+. It’s a slightly curved display, making the bezels appear quite minimal, which is further helped by the inclusion of a punch hole to house the 32MP front camera.
With the left side bare, the right side contains the volume rocker and power button. At the bottom, we have the USB Type-C port, main microphone, loudspeaker, and a dual nano SIM card tray.
Powering the X50 Pro is a Snapdragon 765G chipset with an Adreno 620 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage. This may sound measly if Snapdragon 800-series smartphones are what you’re used to, but the 765G is no slouch when it comes to performance, scoring over 300,000 in AnTuTu v8. Also consider the fact that it’s 5G-ready.
Battery-wise, this one is packing a sizable 4,315mAh cell with support for 33W fast charging. It’s advertised to get up to 57% from 0% in 30 minutes, which isn’t bad at all. For software, we get Funtouch OS 10.5 on top of Android 10.
The Vivo X50 Pro is shaping up to be an interesting smartphone, as it doesn’t solely rely on chipset to attain a flagship status. With design and camera hardware almost exclusively propelling it to that level, it’s an interesting take that we’re sure other manufacturers will follow suit.
