Design and Build

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are some of the most premium and elegant-looking smartphones in the market today. Although, designs are subjective, so it’ll be up to your judgment to decide which one looks better.

But as for the build itself, we gotta hand the win to the Samsung device. The Note 20 Ultra is the first smartphone to use the new Gorilla Glass Victus, which Corning claims can withstand 2 meters of drops and 2x more scratch-resistant than its predecessor. It is also IP68 water and dust resistant.

On the other hand, the Mi 10 Ultra settles for a Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front. While the back is available in ceramic and glass.

Both handsets also have interesting color options. Other than their regular blacks and whites, they have special design variants. The Mi 10 Ultra is available in a unique Transparent Edition that gives you a peek on what’s inside. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra sports the latest Mystic Bronze option, a new colorway that Samsung implements on the Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Z Fold 2, and other also-new devices.

Display and Audio

The specs comparison table above clearly shows that the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra also wins this round.

As you can see, it has a bigger 6.9-inch size and a sharper QHD+ resolution. It also has a higher peak-brightness of 1,500-nits. Although, both devices do have fast 120Hz refresh rate and responsive 240Hz touch-sampling.

The two also have stereo speakers, but the AKG branding on the Note 20 Ultra sure looks more appetizing. Also, both smartphones lack headphone jacks, but both brands do have their own TWS earphones that you can purchase that pairs well with their respective smartphones.

Processor and Hardware

It’s no secret that Samsung’s Exynos processors have been lagging behind Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets for years. That hasn’t changed with the Exynos 990 and Snapdragon 865.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra have some of the best performance on a smartphone today. But expect to get faster experience on the former.

Xiaomi is even giving you an option to get it with a 16GB/512GB RAM and storage configuration, while the Note 20 Ultra maxes out at 12GB/256GB. Although, the Xiaomi device lacks a microSD card for expandable storage.

Both devices also have the latest WiFi 6 and 5G connectivity standard. The Snapdragon 865 comes with a newer Bluetooth 5.1, but the Note 20 Ultra has Samsung’s Wireless DeX technology that lets you wirelessly use desktop view on a TV. Plus, the new ultra-wideband (UWB) — an advanced wireless sharing technology.

Camera

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra currently holds the top spot at DxOMark’s list of best camera phones in the markets — so that says a lot. The camera-testing website hasn’t posted its scores for the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra but, judging by their hardware differences, I don’t think it stands a chance.

Xiaomi-Mi-10-Ultra-NoypiGeeks-5213

With the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, you’re getting great flexibility with its large 48-megapixel main sensor that’s complete with optical image stabilization (OIS). It also has a 48-megapixel periscope lens that can do up to 120x hybrid zoom, beating the 50x on the Note20 Ultra.

There’s also the dedicated 12-megapixel 2x telephoto lens that’s great for portraits, and the usual 20-megapixel ultra-wide camera. It also has a sharper 20-megapixel selfie snapper, beating the 10-megapixel on the Note 20 Ultra.

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-20-Ultra-NoypiGeeks-5245

On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra only has three cameras on the back instead of four. Although, it does have a sharper 108-megapixel main camera. It also has unique features like laser autofocus and can utilize the new Galaxy Buds Live as an external microphone when video recording.

Still, the flexibility that the Mi 10 Ultra provides makes it one of the best cameras phones in the market today.

Battery and Charging

Both the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra have the same 4,500mAh battery. The Snapdragon 865 is said to have better efficiency so expect better longevity out of it.

Xiaomi-Mi-10-Ultra-NoypiGeeks-5219

The Mi 10 Ultra further obliterates the Note 20 Ultra with its charging capabilities. This thing sports a whopping 120W wired fast charging, putting to shame the disappointing 25W charger on the latter.

Samsung’s wired charger can’t even keep up with Xiaomi’s 50W wireless fast charging. Xiaomi also took a marginal lead with its 10W reverse wireless charging, allowing you to charge compatible accessories easily or share battery with friends.

Others

There is still a market for styluses. Whether you’re a creative type, productivity junkie, or whoever you are who find a use for it — the S-Pen is here for you.

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-20-Ultra-NoypiGeeks-5241

Unless you think it’s really essential, there’s no reason to own an S-Pen — or a Note 20 Ultra in general. Sure, it’s nice to have at your disposal, but considering all the features you’d be sacrificing by going with the Note 20 Ultra instead of the Mi 10 Ultra, it’s just not worth it.

Conclusion

With its better cameras, more powerful processors, and much faster-charging technology, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra clearly wins this specs comparison.

Xiaomi-Mi-10-Ultra-NoypiGeeks-2

The best part is, the Xiaomi device is even cheaper than Samsung’s. The top-of-the-line model with 16GB/512GB configuration starts at only CNY6,999 (~ Php49,300). On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra doesn’t even start until Php69,990, and that’s only with 8GB of RAM, 256GB storage, and no 5G.
