It looks like the iPhone 11’s waterproof feature performs much more than what Apple is marketing it.
Married couple Clayton and Heather Helkenberg like to dive to clean lakes and find missing objects. On their recent trip, they found a couple of items, including a working iPhone 11.
After the dive, Clayton took the iPhone home, cleaned it off, and it just turned on automatically. He then took the SIM card out and plugged the SIM to a different device to get the owner’s contact number.
Apparently, the iPhone belonged to Fatemeh Ghidsi, who lost the phone while in a bumper boat last September. Apparently, she lost her balance and dropped the white iPhone 11 in the water.
The waterpark staff said that searching on such deep water is impossible, so Ghidsi had no choice but to go back to Vancouver and get a new phone — without any backup of the poor iPhone 11’s contacts, photos, and other data.
Apparently, the working iPhone 11 is just one of the main objects that the couple found underwater. Clayton has spotted 26 phones, two GoPro cameras, and hundreds of sunglasses — and that’s just last year. You can watch the video below.

Going back to the iPhone 11. This smartphone has an IP68 water resistance rating. This means that, officially, it can withstand dust, dirt, sand, and, more importantly, being submerged up to 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes. But as you just saw, the lost iPhone 11 lasted longer and deeper than that.
