The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is the latest processor that would power high-end Android phones next year. Expectedly, it would be more powerful than its predecessor. But apparently, less powerful than its competition from Apple.
Qualcomm has released the initial benchmark scores for the Snapdragon 888, which appears to be inferior to those of the A14 Bionic Chip found on the iPhone 12 series.
The folks at AnandTech compared the Snapdragon 888’s Geekbench 5 and GFXBench scores to those of the iPhone 12 Pro and others. And as you can see, it lags behind Apple’s current flagship line.
In Geekbench 5, it got a single-core score of 1,135 and a multi-score score of 3,794. That’s obviously less than the iPhone 12 Pro’s 1,603 and 4,187 scores, respectively.
GFXBench tests a smartphone’s GPU performance, to which the iPhone 12 Pro bested everyone with a top score of 102.24fps. The Snapdragon 888 device only got 88fps. Albeit, AnandTech notes that the Qualcomm CPU could ultimately beat Apple’s if power consumption gets better.
It may not beat Apple’s, but Qualcomm’s latest chipset is a significant upgrade over its predecessor as the CPU is 25% better while the GPU is up by 35%.
