The moon will soon get its own 4G coverage, probably better than what most of us have on earth. NASA has awarded Nokia USD 14.1 million to build the first ever 4G mobile network on our only natural satellite.
The goal was to launch the lunar network sometime 2022. The project is under a bigger program called Artemis, which will see the US space agency send astronauts to the moon by 2024, followed by a sustainable human presence by 2028.
The development comes in the cusp of 5G, as more and more smartphones support the new network service.
In the Philippines, both Smart and Globe have made significant strides in making 4G more accessible to everyone. According to Opensignal’s latest report, Smart walks away with better marks, leading in 17 regions for Video Experience and Upload Speed Experience, 14 regions for Download Speed Experience, and 13 regions in 4G availability.
Both telcos offer superior overall experience in Metro Manila. In Video Experience, Smart got a Very Good rating while Globe contends with a Fair Video Experience. It is also in this region that Smart has 18.9Mbps average download speeds with Globe having 10.3Mbps. Finally, Smart users in Metro Manila spent 90.6% of their time connected to 4G networks, while those using Globe came close to the 90% mark, with the operator achieving a 4G Availability score of 89.8% and statistically tying with Smart for first place.
